Social Programme
Our social programme will help you make the most of your time in Malta. It is built around varied and exciting activities which give students more insight into the Maltese culture and way of life. We strongly believe that culture and leisure are an integral part of learning, and Malta offers many engaging and rewarding possibilities both for the young as well as for the mature. Moreover, these activities give you a chance to interact with fellow students and make new friends while practising your English.
While on a school-organised activity, students are accompanied by the school’s group leader and a fully licensed guide when visiting historical places such as the capital city of Valletta. Private transport is also organised by the school.

Winter & Summer Excursions:
Marsaxlokk Fishing Village & Blue Grotto Beach + Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples (FULL DAY TRIP):
Marsaxlokk Fishing Village & Blue Grotto Beach + Hagar Qim & Mnajdra Temples (FULL DAY TRIP): We will travel to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk where students can walk around the Sunday market where a variety of local goods and souvenirs are on offer. Afterwards, we will journey to Pretty Bay (a sandy beach in the village of Birzebugia) followed by Wied iz-Zurrieq (Blue Grotto) – the most popular rocky beach in the south of the island where one can also take a boat trip to the grotto (Boat Trip not included). On the way to Blue Grotto we will also stop for a short visit at Hagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples which are the world’s oldest free standing religious structures and UNESCO world heritage sites. Valletta’s Guided Tour (HALF DAY TOUR):
A guided tour around Malta’s Capital City, Valletta. Built by the Knights of Malta, Valletta’s unique cultural and historical offerings have made it one of the world’s favourite attractions. We will watch the Malta Experience Audio Visual Spectacular and visit St. John’s Co Cathedral (entrance fee included) and other places of interest such as the Upper Barrakka Gardens, St. James Cavalier (Malta’s Arts and Creativity Centre) and St. Paul’s Shipwreck Church. – Price Euro 27.00
Valletta By Night:
We will travel to Malta’s capital city Valletta and take a stroll along its streets whilst enjoying the peaceful and quiet atmosphere which contrasts to the hustle and bustle of the morning rush hours. We will start by visiting the beautiful Upper Barrakka Gardens where you can enjoy breath-taking views of the Grand Harbour and the Three Cities and continue to visit other major attractions and streets of the capital city. Throughout this walking tour you will be accompanied by a guide who will explain the history of each major attraction as well as other historical facts which are not commonly found in your guidebooks. Valletta Sightseeing and Shopping (HALF DAY TOUR):
A walking tour around the streets of the capital city visiting the Upper Barrakka Gardens, Lower Barrakka Gardens and the main shopping streets of the city. You will stop for a 20 minute audio-visual 5D show of Malta’s History. Price Euro 16.00
Mdina by Night:
We will travel to the city of Mdina, which while being a beautiful city during the day, becomes a mysterious and chilling place at night. We will walk around the city which has been the setting for both times of peace and times of war and visit the Mdina Dungeons and enjoy the breathtaking views from the bastions. Price Euro 19.00
Mdina & Ta’ Qali Crafts Village (HALF DAY TOUR):
We will start our afternoon trip by visiting the crafts village where you will be able to watch Maltese craftsmen manufacture traditional crafts such as silver filigree, glass blowing, stone carving and lace making as well as buy your Maltese souvenir. We will then proceed to visit Mdina – Malta’s old capital city and the Mdina Dungeons. You will have some free time to enjoy the breathtaking views from the bastions. Price Euro 17
Rabat, Buskett Forest, Dingli Cliffs & Mosta Dome (HALF DAY TOUR):
We will first visit Rabat which is the neighbouring town to Mdina and walk along the streets of this picturesque town as well as visit the two churches, the one dedicated to St Paul and the other one dedicated to St Joseph. We will then proceed to visit Buskett Forest (the only surviving forest in Malta) and admire the breathtaking views from Dingli Cliffs. Make sure you bring your cameras with you for some beautiful shots! On the way back we also visit the magnificent dome of the Mosta Church. Price Euro 17
The Three Cities & Fort Rinella (FULL DAY TOUR):
We will travel to the region known as Cottonera (The Three Cities) which is located across the harbour from Valletta. We start by visiting Senglea (one of the cities) and then proceed to visit the other city known as Vittoriosa. Whilst in Vittoriosa we will walk along the beautiful Cottonera Waterfront and Yacht Marina where you will be able to enjoy the beautiful views of the Grand Harbour surrounded by its bastions and fortifications. We will finish off the day by visiting Fort Rinella in Kalkara which was built in 1878 by the British and was the most technologically advanced war machine of its day. Price Euro 33.00
Malta Aviation Museum & Ta’ Qali Crafts Village:
We will visit the most popular attractions in Ta’ Qali which was previously a British military airfield. We will start by visiting the Malta Aviation Museum which is an aircraft museum situated on the site of the former Royal Air Force airfield in the village of Ta’Qali. The museum, based in three hangars, covers the history of aviation on the island with exhibits particularly from the Second World War and post-war periods. The museum is involved in the preservation and restoration of exhibits’ aircraft–some of which are of airworthy condition. We will then visit the nearby Ta Qali crafts village where local crafts are manufactured. Transport is provided. Price: Euro 25
The National Stadium & Ta’ Qali Crafts Village:
We will visit the most popular attractions in Ta’ Qali which was previously a British military airfield. Ta Qali Crafts Village & The National Stadium, locally also referred to as Ta’ Qali, is a stadium located in Ta’ Qali, Malta. The stadium, which also contains the headquarters of the Malta Football Association, seats 16,997 people and is, by far, the largest stadium in the country. It serves as the national football stadium of Malta and is the home stadium of the Malta national football team. The stadium, together with three other stadiums, also hosts the Maltese Premier League and some of the matches of the Maltese FA Trophy, including the final. We will have a tour of the stadium including the VIP areas and the newly refurbished section of the Malta Football Association. We will then visit the nearby Ta Qali crafts village where local crafts are manufactured. Transport is provided. Price: Euro 20
The Three Cities by night:

Luzzu Night Harbour Cruise:
Travelling on a traditional Maltese Luzzu, we will visit the various creeks of the Grand Harbour, the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean. You will see the bastions of Valletta lit up in all their splendour. The trip lasts around two hours and is accompanied by continuous live commentary. Price Euro 17.00
Evening Bowling at the Eden Superbowl in St. Julian’s:
We will spend the evening at Malta’s biggest and best ten-pin bowling centre. Price: Euro 7.50
Archery in Lija, the Three Villages & San Anton Gardens:
Archery in Lija at one of the most beautiful villages in the centre of Malta. Full equipment and coaching is included. The outdoor archery session is 1 hour long after which you will have time to walk along the quaint streets of this beautiful Maltese village and the other two villages of Balzan & Attard. We will also stop at San Anton Gardens at the President’s Palace. Price Euro 18.00
Winter Only Excursions:
Gozo & Comino in One Day Winter Tour (FULL DAY TOUR):
We will travel to Cirkewwa to board the ferry to cross to the sister island of Gozo (ferry crossing takes about 20 minutes). While in Gozo we will visit the Citadella (Gozo’s old fortified capital), Calypso Cave, Xlendi Bay and the breathtaking Azure Window and Inland Sea. We then take the speedboat to Comino where we will spend the afternoon exploring the famous island of Comino, the Blue Lagoon. We will also walk all the way up to St. Mary’s Tower (built by the Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt in 1618 as a system of defence) on the island of Comino. On the way back to Malta we will also visit various caves. An adventure not to be missed! Price Euro 39
Ta’ Qali Crafts Village & San Anton Palace Gardens Tour (HALF DAY TOUR):
We start the tour by visiting the crafts village where you will be able to watch Maltese craftsmen manufacture traditional crafts such as silver filigree, glass blowing, stone carving and lace making as well as buy your Maltese souvenir. We will then proceed to visit the beautiful gardens at San Anton Palace which is the official residence of the President of Malta. Price 17
Countryside Walks at Buskett Gardens and Dingli Cliffs (HALF DAY TOUR):
We will start our hiking tour from Verdala Palace – the summer residence of the President of Malta and will walk through the woodlands of Buskett (Malta’s only forest) up to Dingli Cliffs where you can enjoy breath-taking views of Malta’s West Coast. The bus will then pick us up from the village of Dingli. School Transport is provided. Price 17
Golden Bay & Majjistral Nature & History Park Walking Tour (HALF DAY TOUR):
We will start our walking tour from the famous Golden Bay sandy beach and continue along the North West coast of Malta with breath taking views of Malta’s cliffs and countryside. The Majjistral Nature and History Park was Malta’s first natural national park. You will be given a map of the route before starting the walking tour. Your group leader will also provide you with information about the historical and ecological importance of the sites you will see during the tour. Price 17
Popeye’s Village Winter Tour (HALF DAY TOUR):
We will travel to Popeye’s Village in the North of the island which was used as the Film Set of the 1980 Musical Production ‘Popeye’ with Robin Williams as Popeye the Sailor. The Village is now one of the major tourist attractions in Malta. You will spend the afternoon visiting the various attractions which the village has to offer. You will also watch a 15 minute movie about the history of the film set followed by various animation shows taking place at the time. A short 15 minute boat trip around Anchor Bay is also included (weather permitting). You will be given a free post card as a souvenir to take with you back home. Price 30
Summer Only Excursions:
Gozo & Comino in One Day (FULL DAY TRIP):
An exciting thirty minute ride on a speed boat from Spinola Bay, St. Julian’s to the sister island of Gozo. While in Gozo we will visit the Citadella (Gozo’s old fortified capital), Calypso Cave and the breathtaking Azure Window and Inland Sea. We then take the boat to Comino where we will spend the afternoon enjoying the cool and crystal clear waters of the famed Blue Lagoon. On the way back to Malta we will also visit various caves. An adventure not to be missed! Price Euro 39.00
Trip to Golden Bay / Mellieha Bay / Paradise Bay / Peter’s Pool:
We will travel to one of the famous beaches where you will enjoy swimming and sunbathing. Why not try one of the exhilarating water sports that the lidos have to offer. Price Euro 10.00
“Splash ‘n’ Fun” Amusement Park:
We spend the afternoon at Malta’s largest fun park which includes water slides, large swimming pools, games arcades etc. Price Euro 16.00
Festa Night:
We will travel to a traditional Maltese Festa (Location depends on the date) where you will be able to see band marches, fireworks and the beautifully decorated church and statue dedicated to the town’s patron saint. Price Euro 15.00
Night Beach BBQ:
We will travel to one of Malta’s sandy beaches where you will be able to swim at dusk, participate in some beach games and then enjoy a BBQ. A great opportunity to make new friends. Price Euro 15.00
Popeye Village Summer Tour (HALF DAY TOUR):
We will travel to Popeye’s Village in the North of the island which was used as the Film Set of the 1980 Musical Production ‘Popeye’ with Robin Williams as Popeye the Sailor. The Village is now one of the major tourist attractions in Malta. You will spend the afternoon swimming at Anchor Bay (use of all beach facilities such as deckchairs and umbrellas included in price) whilst visiting the various attractions which the village has to offer. You will also watch a 15 minute movie about the history of the film set followed by various animation shows taking place at the time. Price Euro 30.00
GSE organizes other activities including sport activities such as our weekly football tournament at San Gwann FC, trekking & abseiling, sightseeing flights by plane over the Maltese islands as well as tailor-made programmes for groups. We also organize trips to major annual events taking place in Malta such as Notte Bianca, Birgu by Candlelight, BirguFest, Rolex Middlesea Yachting Race, the annual International Fireworks Festival at the Grand Harbour, Delicata and Marsovin Wine Festivals, Strawberry Festival at Mgarr, Casal Fornaro Bread Festival in Qormi, Medieval Mdina, Maritime Festivals and other events. We also organize ‘off the beaten track’ countryside walks such as Dingli Cliffs, Buskett Forest, Verdala Palace, Girgenti etc.
