International Women’s Day 2017

International Women's Day Gateway School of English Malta GSE

8th March 2017

Happy International Women’s Day 2017 to all you females out there, old and young, all over the world, no matter your walk of life or personal background. Today is your day to declare to the world, your friends, your family, or just yourself, what “bold action” you will be taking to support your own personal advancement as a woman and as an individual, in the spirit of this year’s theme: #BeBoldForChange

This is exactly what our students and staff were invited to do this morning during break time, as can be seen in the picture posted here in which they are all proudly holding up their official IWD campaign posters.

While we are at it, let us also pause to remember the inspiring women of yesterday as we celebrate the hardworking women of today and make way for the promising women of tomorrow.

You can contribute to this campaign while practising your English by

  1. downloading your own copy of the #BeBoldForChange IWD campaign poster from here, and
  2. writing a bold action you are determined to take today or in the coming weeks that can serve towards closing the gender gap.

Here are a few examples that have been suggested on the International Women’s Day official website (https://www.internationalwomensday.com/):

  • take a junior woman to a client or sales meeting;
  • challenge organisers of all-male speaking panels;
  • launch a purposeful female-focused initiative;
  • educate boys about stereotypes and violence against women;
  • nominate women for senior jobs;
  • donate time to a female-focused charity;
  • mentor a woman;
  • form a support network.

May we all respond to this powerful call to action and join in rolling up our sleeves as we continue working towards an ever better and hard earned future. To Women!  Image result for clinking glasses clipart
